National Jazz Young Talent Orchestra conducted by Paolo Damiani: selection for the three-year period 2023-2026

The Fondazione Musica per Roma is offering a call for the selection of female musicians under 30 for the new edition of theONJGT (Orchestra Nazionale Jazz Giovani Talenti) directed by Paolo Damiani. TheONJGT was founded in 2014 to enhance emerging young talent on the Italian jazz scene. The repertoire ranges from original compositions by members of the orchestra to pure improvisation. Applications must be received by September 30, 2023.

Farewell to Adriano Mazzoletti

On June 18 Adriano Mazzoletti, one of the most important historians and popularizers of Italian jazz, passed away. Adriano often collaborated on activities that took place at the House of Jazz and frequently attended our concerts during the institution’s 18 years of existence. The Casa del Jazz and the Fondazione Musica per Roma express their heartfelt condolences to the family and the entire Italian jazz world.

The Jazz Campus Orchestra in concert at the Florence Opera House

On July 6 at the Teatro dell’Opera in Florence (Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino) the Jazz Campus Orchestra of the Fondazione Musica per Roma and the Orchestra dei Ragazzi (OdR) of the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole will come together to perform “The New Jungle Book,” a work created by Massimo Nunzi and by the French writer Yann Apperry. The entire orchestra will be conducted by Maestro Antonino Siringo, with reciting voice by Maestro Edoardo Rosadini. “The New Jungle Book” is a contemporary reinterpretation of R. Kipling ‘s work and will be performed live by an orchestra of more than 100 elements, deploying for the first time together the Classical and Jazz music schools of two of Italy’s leading institutions. The concert is performed by an orchestra composed of female musicians from nine years old to 18 years old.

Casa del Jazz celebrates World Jazz Day

April 30 marks International Jazz Day, introduced by UNESCO in November 2011 following an idea by pianist Herbie Hancock, with the aim of recognizing the value of this musical genre and its ability to unite people around the world; a music that since its inception has been a spokesman for the values of equality and the fight against racism.

The House of Jazz celebrates World Jazz Day with a day of special events. At 11 a.m. Saint Louis College of Music presents the meeting “Italian Jazz – An Unknown History. Meetings of the Archives of Jazz in Rome” curated by Paolo Marra. During the meeting, the theme “The New Generation of Jazz Players. The formations of the early 1980s” with the intervention and live performance of Rita Marcotulli on piano, Enzo Pietropaoli on double bass, and Roberto Gatto on drums. In the second part of the day double date at 6 and 9 p.m. with Indian drummer, composer and producer Sarathy Korwar one of the most original and compelling voices on the English jazz scene. His music blends jazz, electronica, Indian folk, and classical influences that focus on decolonization, a sense of community, race, and transcendence. Korwar will present along with Tamar Osborn on saxophone and Alistair Macsween on synthesizers his third album KALAK, an Indo-futurist manifesto that follows through a distinct rhythm the past and the present, at the same time posing as a starting point toward a road yet to be traveled. A celebration of South Asian musical and literary culture intertwined with spirituality and a sense of community in anticipation of a better future that can originate from that very foundation.

The artists of Parco della Musica Records, the record label of Fondazione Musica per Roma, have once again won excellent results at Top Jazz 2022, the critics’ referendum held by the historic magazine Musica Jazz: 1st place for Mariasole De Pascali Nuovo Talento Italiano, 3rd place for Lydian Sound Orchestra as the Formation of the Year, the 4th , 6th and 11th place among the Records of the Year respectively for Franco D’Andrea, Lydian Sound Orchestra, Ettore Fioravanti
