Rita Marcotulli Trio

An adventurous journey the meeting of Rita Marcotulli and Israel Varela, a journey in search of many sounds that refer to jazz, flamenco, Arab and Indian music. And while even at times it may feel like being in Tibet because of a ritual bell or perhaps in Japan, the purpose is always the same: to go further and not stop at the first pleasure of listening. It could not be otherwise with an artist who has varied collaborations with Pat Metheny, Pino Daniele, Peter Erskine, Dewey Redman, Enrico Rava, and Richard Galliano behind her. With Pino Daniele himself, Rita Marcotulli collaborated extensively, later dedicating an entire album to him (“To Pino”).

Israel Varela, a Mexican, skilled and refined composer, drummer, and singer with surprising and rich musicality. Euro Latin Award winner Israel Varela is one of the most accomplished artists of his generation. His originality and distinctive style have enabled him to perform with a multitude of famous artists such as: Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, Mike Stern, Yo-Yo-Ma, Victor Bailey, Abe Laboriel, Pino Daniele, Diego Amador, Karen Lugo and many others. Finally, the name of Ares Tavolazzi is invariably connected to the crucial, unprejudiced sound experience of AREA; but the Ferrara-based double bassist’s resume also includes collaborations with Eugenio Finardi, Lucio Dalla, Francesco Guccini, Paolo Conte and Stefano Bollani. Tavolazzi, with his experience, is the added value that completes the sonic journey of this project.
