The collaboration between the singer Elizabeth Antonini, winner of the prestigious Top Jazz critics’ award for Best New Talent, and Alexander Gwis, a pianist and composer well known as a member of Aires Tango, dates back to the artist’s debut album, “A Minute Later,” a successful work of original music and borderline sounds between European jazz and Mediterranean lyricism that featured, in addition to saxophonist Gabriele Coen, by Oregon’s historic oboist Paul Mc Candless and the great trumpeter Kenny Wheeler. In Contemporary Tales, jazz songs, cultured music, and original European-inspired compositions return to echo in a sonic impressionism that makes use of electronics on the voice and piano, a color now identifying Gwis and increasingly present in Antonini‘s projects, with a high-impact result.
