Craig Taborn

Born in Minneapolis in 1970, Craig Taborn has an extraordinary musical career that, for more than twenty-five years, has ranged from free jazz to contemporary music, from electronic to rock, and even noise. Over the years, the American pianist, keyboardist and composer has collaborated with the greatest exponents of jazz, improvisation and electronic music, including Roscoe Mitchell, Wadada Leo Smith, Lester Bowie, Dave Holland, Tim Berne, John Zorn, Evan Parker, Steve Coleman, David Torn, Chris Potter and William Parker, to name a few.

Rose to prominence in the 1990s, Taborn is currently involved in numerous musical groups and projects, such as the Craig Taborn Trio, the Junk Magic, the Daylight Ghosts Quartet, Golden Valley is Now-an instrumental electronic-pop art group-and a trio with Tomeka Reid and Ches Smith, as well as collaborations with other prestigious musicians.

Passion, virtuosity and improvisational skills are the hallmarks of the eclectic artist, who recently released “Shadow Plays,” his latest totally improvised album, recorded live in spring 2020 during a performance at the Konzerthaus in Vienna.
